Introduction
BylineCV (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect when you use BylineCV, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information: Your name, email address, and password when you register. If you sign in with Google or LinkedIn, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider.
- CV and cover letter content: The contact details, work history, education, skills, job descriptions, and writing you choose to enter or import.
- Profile and preferences: The settings you save in your workspace.
BylineCV is free during its pilot, and we do not collect payment details. We do not record in-app usage analytics.
How we use your information
- To let you create, edit, preview, share, and export CVs and cover letters.
- To generate AI-powered suggestions, ATS analysis, and cover letter drafts when you ask for them.
- To keep you signed in and secure your account.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal data. When you use an AI feature, the relevant CV content and job description are sent to OpenAI to generate the result. If you sign in with Google or LinkedIn, that provider handles the sign-in. We use Brevo to send account emails, such as password reset links, so it receives your email address when we send you one. If we introduce paid plans, payments will be processed by Stripe and we will not store card numbers.
When you create a share link for a CV, anyone with that link can view it until you turn sharing off.
Data retention
We keep your account and documents for as long as your account is active. You can delete CVs and cover letters from your workspace at any time. You can also delete your account in Settings, which immediately and permanently removes your profile, sign-in details, CVs, cover letters and score history. You can still ask us to do this for you by contacting us. We cannot delete copies you have already exported or shared.
Security
We use encrypted connections and hashed passwords to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure.
Cookies
We only use cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to protect sign-in from forged requests. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to opt in to.
- Session cookie: Keeps you signed in. It expires when you sign out or after a period of inactivity.
- Security cookies: Protect the sign-in form and remember where to return you after signing in, including during Google or LinkedIn sign-in.
If we introduce paid plans, Stripe may set its own cookies on its checkout pages, which are covered by Stripe’s privacy policy. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but you will not be able to stay signed in without them.
